In honour of many generations of family women, hailing from The Bismarck Archipelago, a group of islands off the northeastern coast of New Guinea....and resilient they were. My grandmother and her two sisters lost their mother when very young but grew into independent young woman and all married European gentlemen. Many years were enjoyed in the region as my grandmother Maria and her sister Lula started their families whilst working their Copra Plantations. Their lives changed in World War 2 when the women were evacuated with their children to Australia and very sadly their husbands interned because of their German identity, my grandfather, who I never got to meet due to ill health suffered as a consequence. Hannah, without children, stayed behind and played a part in rescuing soldiers from the jungle and now proudly featured in the Canberra War Museum.
As a child, my parents, Bevan and Patricia Miller enjoyed many years of breeding Major Mitchell Cockatoos in particular. Their lineage started with their first female Jodi and her mate Sar Major. We are now the lucky owners of the last of their Majors Pretty Boy.
